2019 Coaches Conference

Date: April 26 - 28, 2019

Location: RockRidge Canyon, Princeton BC

#BCSSA_CC    #BCSSA

BCSSA's annual Coaches Conference will take place April 26 to April 28 2019 at RockRidge Canyon in Princeton, BC.

Information

This year's conference will focus on the technical aspects of swimming with our speakers sharing their knowledge about the developments that are being made in the world of aquatics. Within BCSSA, coaches need to keep moving towards the idea of becoming technical coaches, and developing programs that give our athletes the opportunity to achieve their goals and meet their dreams.

The job of a coach is to provide opportunities for each individual, and to give them the tools and skills that will help them find their path as an athlete. The road might end at making a provincial final in the 50 free, becoming a junior coach in seasons to come, or trying to make a final at Olympic Trials years down the road.

The job of the coach is not to choose an athlete's path, but to lead them to opportunities that are right in front of them. We need to be united on the idea that we are not creating the athlete, but developing the person.

We thank-you for your interest in this year's conference. By attending, you show your commitment to yourself as a coach, your club, the BCSSA, and most importantly your athletes in the pool. This conference has been designed to provide you with the tools and skills to reach your own potential as a coach, so that you can guide your athletes in the direction fit for them.

We hope that all regions and clubs in the BCSSA will be able to send coaches to the conference to support the growth and development of coaching. To assist with this, the BCSSA Board of Directors has funding set aside for the Coaches Conference to reduce the cost of the conference to attendees substantially! This also helps offset other costs for out of town clubs and coaches to attend.

This is one opportunity for coaches to participate in professional development in the 2019 season. We look forward to seeing all your smiling faces in April.

Conference Schedule Outline

Coaches may arrive at the venue from 7:00 pm Friday evening onwards. Please do not arrive before this time as the venue will be preparing for our arrival. Participants can pick up their registration packages at the Main Hall after this time. Coaches will jump right into training with our first session taking place at 8:15 pm on Friday. A meet-and-greet will take place at 9:30 pm with appetizers and beverages served.

Saturday's activities will include keynote speakers and break-out sessions. Coaches can choose to attend whichever break-out sessions apply to their coaching needs and interests.

On Sunday there will be more breakout sessions prior to departures at 12:30 pm.

The cost of accomodation and all meals are included in your fee. Please note there are no cash machines or food for sale on site. There is a coffee shop that is open from 7:30-8:30 on Saturday morning that sells coffee and snacks. Meals that will be served are appies on Friday evening, breakfast both days at 8:30 am, coffe and fruit break before lunch, lunch at 12:30 pm, dinner Saturday only at 5:30 pm and s'mores on Saturday night.

Coaches can purchase tickets for the Zip-line and Tower of Terror through this site. Both activities will occur during breaks in the seminars and exact times can be selected at registration. For those who have not been to RockRidge Canyon the Zip-line is the longest in North America and runs over Lorne lake. The Zip-line is tandem, so grab a friend and sign up! The Tower of Terror involves more team-work as you and a friend climb onto an elevated platform and jump off the platform to swing on a bar high above the lake. Both activities are weather dependant.

For those coaches interested in taking a bus to and from the venue there is an additional $50 charge to your ticket. We have booked a chartered bus with a washroom on board. The bus will pick coaches up at the Tsawassen ferry terminal and then the Langley Events Centre. The bus will make a stop in Princeton on Friday evening for coaches to buy dinner before continuing on to RockRidge Canyon. The bus will make the same stops on it's return on April 28.
